Autotrader WordPress plugin comparison 2026 – what UK dealers can actually buy

If you advertise on Autotrader and you also run your own WordPress site, you have almost certainly typed the same car in twice. The job you actually want doing is narrow: pull your live forecourt stock out of your Autotrader account and turn it into indexable vehicle pages on your own domain, with filters, galleries and structured data. This post compares the options a UK dealer can genuinely buy today – Autotrader’s own hosted Dealer Website, a dealer platform with a WordPress plugin (MotorDesk), and Devikit’s Autotrader WordPress Integration PRO.
Worth saying up front: the WordPress.org plugin directory has no plugin dedicated to the Autotrader UK Stock API. A search of the repository returns generic XML/CSV inventory importers and platform connectors, not a direct Autotrader integration. This is a thin niche, and the honest comparison is between quite different business models rather than between five near-identical plugins.

Read the table as three different shapes of solution rather than three versions of the same thing. Two of them come with a monthly platform behind them; one is a plugin you install on a site you already own.
What are your real options
- Autotrader’s own Dealer Website – a hosted site from Autotrader, managed alongside your advertising account. Simple, but it is their template and their platform, not your WordPress install.
- A dealer platform that also offers a WordPress plugin – in practice this means MotorDesk, which publishes a free connector plugin on WordPress.org but bills for the platform behind it.
- A hosted dealer website platform integrated with Autotrader Connect – Vehiso, TraderWay, Car Dealer 5, Blue Sky Interactive, Click Dealer, Dragon2000, Spidersnet and others. You get a whole website and DMS, but you leave WordPress behind.
- A bespoke build from an agency that is an Autotrader Connect partner – full control, but you are paying for development and then for maintenance of an API integration.
- A generic WordPress feed importer – plugins that ingest XML or CSV from a DMS. Cheap, but they do not talk to the Autotrader Stock API.
- Devikit Autotrader WordPress Integration PRO – a plugin for the WordPress site you already have, priced as an annual licence rather than a monthly platform fee.
What Autotrader offers you directly
Autotrader’s stock data does not come out of a public feed you can just point a plugin at. It comes out of Autotrader Connect, the API platform that sits behind the Portal, with documentation at developers.autotrader.co.uk. The relevant endpoints for a website are the Stock API (forecourt stock and advertising channels) and the Search API (listing, filtering and sorting adverts for consumer-facing applications).
Access is gated. Autotrader’s own guidance is that your technology partner usually handles the integration on your behalf, and that partners or retailers wanting a direct integration should apply through their form. Retailers need a Trade package for API services. This is the single most important fact about this whole market: whatever you buy, someone has to be an approved integration on your Advertiser ID.
Autotrader also sells a website product. Their help centre has a dedicated Dealer Websites section covering how to manage the site, manage the stock list, transfer a domain, get reporting, edit the finance calculator text, add chat and Instagram, and deactivate the site. So a hosted Dealer Website from Autotrader is real and it is stock-integrated by design. What is not public is the price, or how much of the SEO layer you control – and one dealer web agency has publicly argued that these platforms lock the SEO settings you would want to change. We could not verify that claim independently, so treat it as a question for your account manager rather than a fact.
One older option has gone. Autotrader’s daily datafeed for websites has been retired in favour of Connect – a website provider that used to resell it now states plainly that “our Auto Trader Datafeed service has been replaced with Auto Trader Connect”. If you are still on a nightly file, that is the reason your site keeps showing sold cars.
On the partner question: Autotrader does not publish a complete directory of integrators. Its 2025 annual report states it is integrated with over 120 technology partners, and the help centre publishes a short contact list of thirteen partners for support escalation – Blue Sky Interactive, Click Dealer, Nexus Point, Starkwood Media, Car Dealer 5, Dragon 2000, The Whole Caboodle, Spidersnet, Dealer Kit, The AA / V Cars, Motors, Autos On Show and eDynamix.
MotorDesk and its WordPress plugin
MotorDesk is a UK dealer management platform that describes itself as an AutoTrader Connect Partner and is built around Autotrader’s Stock Management, Leads and Deal Builder APIs. It is the closest thing to a direct competitor here, because it is the only other route to Autotrader stock on WordPress that you can actually sign up for today.
The MotorDesk plugin is free on WordPress.org (version 1.1.4, last updated 3 July 2026, 10+ active installations). You install it, drop a [MOTORDESK] shortcode into a page, and you get a vehicle search, listings and individual vehicle information pages with full specifications and optional extras. Template files are editable, updates propagate from MotorDesk to WordPress within about a minute, and reservation and enquiry forms are embedded as iframes so leads land in MotorDesk’s Leads and Chat system.
Two things to understand about the model. First, the direction of travel is reversed: MotorDesk is your stock master and it pushes to Autotrader, rather than reading Autotrader’s Portal as the source of truth. If you want to keep creating adverts in the Portal, that is a real workflow difference. Second, the plugin is free but the platform is not. MotorDesk’s published pricing starts at £79/month for 5 vehicles for sale and 1 staff account, then £149 for 25 vehicles, £269 for 50, £499 for 100, £849 for 200 and £1,349 for 350, all excluding VAT, with add-ons from £39/month for extra vehicle slots. Vehicle data at £0.15 per vehicle and valuations at £0.50 each are free if you are an Autotrader customer. Annual billing gives twelve months for the price of eleven, and there is a 30-day free trial.
MotorDesk’s public documentation for the plugin does not mention JSON-LD structured data, a vehicle XML sitemap, or Yoast and Rank Math integration. That does not mean the platform lacks SEO features on its own hosted websites – it means we could not verify them for the WordPress plugin specifically, so we have marked those rows as undocumented rather than absent.
Hosted dealer platforms with Autotrader Connect
If you are open to dropping WordPress, this is the largest and most competitive part of the market. Autotrader named Click Dealer, GForces, Dragon2000, eDynamix Global, Nexus Point, The Whole Caboodle, Chief Mechanic, SalesMaster, Bluesky Interactive and Dealer Kit among early Connect integrators, and Automotive Transformation Group integrated Connect into NetDirector SalesMaster.
At the independent-dealer end, pricing is public and low. Vehiso runs from a free plan for 5 vehicles to £49/month for 20, £79 for 50, £149 for 100 and £199 for 200, with stock feeds to Autotrader, CarGurus, Motors.co.uk, eBay Motors and others included on paid plans. TraderWay lists £39, £59 and £79/month tiers, with Autotrader sync on the middle plan upwards. Both bundle a website with a DMS, so you get invoicing, enquiry management and marketplace feeds that a WordPress plugin will never give you.
The trade-off is ownership. You are renting a template site, and if you stop paying it goes away. That argument is made most bluntly by WordPress agencies competing for the same dealers – Studio 36 Digital, for instance, contrasts its WordPress builds with providers charging “£500+ a month for a template site” that you do not own. Whether that framing fits your situation depends on how much you value the DMS side of the bundle.
Bespoke agency work sits alongside this. Gambit Nash documented building a bespoke WooCommerce plugin to sync a motorhome dealer’s WordPress inventory with Autotrader via its APIs, and became an AutoTrader Connect Partner in the process. That is the proof that a WordPress-based Autotrader integration works well – and also a reminder that commissioning one from scratch is a different order of cost from buying a licence.
Generic feed importers and plugins not yet available
Search the plugin directory and you will find inventory importers that look like they might do the job. Automotive Inventory Importer (version 3.0.0, updated July 2026, 10+ active installations) syncs any flat XML or CSV feed into WordPress, with field mapping, stale-listing handling, image import to the Media Library, and a Pro tier adding Vehicle JSON-LD and more frequent syncing. It is competent, but its listed compatibility is with North American DMS exports – vAuto, HomeNet, CDK, Reynolds and so on – and it does not connect to the Autotrader UK Stock API at all. It only helps if you already have a feed file from somewhere else. Inventory Presser is in the same category.
One more worth knowing about, because it markets itself directly at this search: Bemoto. Its argument is sound – native API pages beat iframes for indexation – and the underlying sync engine is real, shipping as the Ad Integration for mobile.de API plugin with around 40 active installations. But the Autotrader version does not exist yet. Their own FAQ says Bemoto “is applying as a software partner” and that “development starts after Autotrader Connect partner approval and sandbox API credentials”, with an early-access list for a UK beta. Keep an eye on it; do not plan a site launch around it.
Devikit Autotrader WordPress Integration PRO
Autotrader WordPress Integration PRO costs £169.00 ex. VAT / year and does one job: it connects a WordPress site to the Autotrader UK Stock API and renders your stock as native pages. There is no free edition of this plugin and none is planned – it is a single PRO licence. Devikit describes itself as an Autotrader.co.uk Partner, and volume discounts run from 10% on two licences up to 50% on ten or more, applying to renewals as long as you keep the same licence count.
Requirements are the same gate everyone else faces: WordPress 6.0, PHP 7.4, an active Autotrader dealer account with a Trade package, your Advertiser ID (DID), and API access enabled by Autotrader for the Devikit integration. That last step is an email to partner.support@autotrader.co.uk, and the plugin’s Setup tab includes a copy-to-clipboard template for it. Autotrader typically activates within a few hours on business days. Notably, you never handle API keys – OAuth2 credentials live on Devikit’s proxy and only your Advertiser ID is stored on your site.
Sync runs three times a day, every 8 hours, via WP-Cron, which the documentation states is the maximum the Autotrader API allows. A manual “Sync Now” button counts towards that daily limit of three. This is the plugin’s clearest limitation against real-time Connect integrations, and it is the thing to weigh if you turn stock over quickly. In its favour, the sync is defensive: existing vehicle data is preserved if the API errors, the cache only flushes after a successful response, and there is stampede protection plus documented handling of 400, 401, 403, 429 and 5xx responses with exponential backoff and rate-limit headers respected.
The SEO layer is where the plugin is most detailed. Vehicles get /vehicles/{make}/{model}/{slug}/ URLs using the derivative by default, with 301 redirects from the older stock-ID format. Every detail page outputs JSON-LD using Vehicle and Offer schema, including mileage, fuel, transmission, engine displacement, VIN, price, availability and seller. Meta title and description templates are configurable with placeholders for year, make, model, derivative, fuel, transmission, mileage, price and dealer name. There is a dedicated /sitemap-vehicles.xml, registered in robots.txt and folded into the Yoast SEO or Rank Math sitemap index if either is active, and the plugin hands titles, descriptions, canonicals, OpenGraph and Twitter Cards to whichever of those two you use – or outputs its own if neither is installed.
On the front end you get six shortcodes with matching Gutenberg blocks: full listings, filters-only, latest stock, featured vehicles, previously sold stock and a compact make/model/max-price selector. Filters cover make, model, fuel, transmission, body type, colour and doors, plus price, mileage and year ranges, with sorting by price, mileage, year, age, date added or make. Detail pages carry a lightbox gallery with a thumbnail strip and an optional Videos tab, a full specification table with configurable visible rows, price indicator and monthly payment where Autotrader supplies them, and an enquiry sidebar with your phone, email and an optional contact note. Images stream from Autotrader’s CDN with lazy loading, srcset and CDN size presets, so nothing bloats your Media Library.
Practical bits worth knowing: templates can be overridden from your theme, colours are configurable without CSS, vehicles without photos can be hidden or given a placeholder, the default /vehicles/ archive can be switched off entirely while detail pages keep working, and there is a connection test, a 200-entry error log with credential redaction, and a clean-uninstall option. It is translation-ready for WPML, Polylang and Loco Translate.
The honest limits: one installation serves one Advertiser ID, so a multi-site dealer group needs a licence per site. There is no CRM, no invoicing, no publishing back to Autotrader and no feeds to other marketplaces. Enquiries are contact details in a sidebar rather than a lead management system. If you need those things, you need a platform, not a plugin.
What to choose in practice
- You already have a WordPress site you like – Devikit PRO is the option that does not ask you to rebuild or migrate. £169.00 ex. VAT / year against £79+/month for a platform is the whole argument.
- You want stock, leads, invoicing and other portals in one system – MotorDesk, Vehiso, TraderWay or a Connect-integrated website provider. A plugin is the wrong tool for that job.
- You have no website at all and want the least work – talk to your Autotrader account manager about a Dealer Website first. It is integrated by default and you already have the relationship.
- Your stock turns over several times a day – a real-time Connect integration beats three syncs a day. Be realistic about whether your actual turnover justifies it.
- Local search visibility is the point of the exercise – you want native indexable vehicle pages with Vehicle and Offer schema and a vehicle sitemap on your own domain. Ask any provider to show you the rendered HTML of a live vehicle page before you sign.
- You want the Portal to stay your source of truth – Devikit reads Autotrader; MotorDesk expects to be your stock master and push to Autotrader. Pick the direction that matches how your team already works.
- You run several sites for several Advertiser IDs – budget a licence per site with Devikit, or price up a group plan with a platform provider and compare.
- You only have an XML or CSV export from a DMS – a generic importer such as Automotive Inventory Importer will do, but understand you are not reading Autotrader’s API and your data is only as fresh as that file.
Summary
There is no crowded plugin market here. Autotrader keeps its stock data behind Autotrader Connect and approved integrations, so the WordPress.org directory has nothing dedicated to the UK Stock API, and the widely marketed alternative from Bemoto has not launched. That leaves three genuine shapes of answer: Autotrader’s own hosted Dealer Website, a monthly dealer platform such as MotorDesk that ships a WordPress connector, or an annual plugin licence on the site you already own.
Devikit PRO is deliberately the narrow option. It syncs three times a day rather than in real time and it does not pretend to be a DMS. What it does give you, for £169.00 ex. VAT / year, is documented schema.org output, a vehicle sitemap wired into Yoast or Rank Math, six shortcodes with blocks, and CDN-served galleries on a WordPress site that stays yours. If your bottleneck is double data entry and Google visibility rather than running the whole dealership from one screen, that is a reasonable place to start.
